NY has always been an area prominently known for producing bands with a particular, yet unique sound. In spring 2005 Praeter Morte was no strangers to the NY metal scene and were sickened by the current decline of individuality between every cookie cutter deathcore/metalcore band that was flooding underground shows and venues. Together they decided to take a stand in this era that accepts quality extreme acts more than ever. The goal, to create music that wouldn't bow to the infiltration of poor copy and past generic self proclaimed death metal acts of the time. Feverishly they wrote enough material to start playing shows and they recorded a 4 song demo titled "Vae Victas".
Since then, Praeter Morte has shared the stage with many internationally renown acts such as Skinless, Success Will Write Apocalypse Across The Sky, Mucopus, Macabre, Anal Cunt, 25 Ta Life, Negative Reaction and Revenance as well as similar up and coming acts such as Waking the Cadaver,Without Remorse, Wasteform, Suppressed Theory and Ashes of The Lost.
2009: After a year long hiatus Praeter Morte signed with Last Resort Records and entered Full Force Studios with Joe Cincotta (Suffocation, Internal Bleeding, Criminal Element) to record their debut album "Purifying the Oppressor". The fusion of the technicality of black metal, groove and 2 step found in NYC hardcore and sheer unrelenting brutality of their death metal roots has created a unique mix not found in many of today's commercial acts. Praeter Morte's oath is to uphold their uncompromising ever-elusive sound and create music that will not cater to the tight pant wearing, comb-over emocore/metalcore/deathcore sub- genres. Their legacy of unrelenting and unique brutality is just unfolding becoming one of the deathmetal genres greatest assets in the underground music scene today leaving behind them a path of destruction.
